Supposed to be a kayaking day today but it's been raining since about 6pm yesterday. It's now after noon and the rain has stopped momentarily and a little sunshine is actually showing up. Might have to go out and have a look. Radio report from Captain Ron who is on a fishing trip today is rain down towards the volcano and the dam. The sun has been peeking through several times today with periods of light or no rain. So, rain at the other end of the lake doesn't mean we're out of luck for a kayak run.
Actually, when you get right down to it, kayaking in the rain is kinda fun. Certainly doesn't detract from the overall experience. Sure, the volcano will be invisible, and the tops of the hills are sometimes in the clouds. But the temperature is comfortable and paddling keeps the body furnace running. A little tropical shower doesn't normally slow us down much.
Winds have been variable the past few days as this storm system moves around. We had a substantial headwind the other day on our last outing but today is only moderately breezy in our area. No whitecaps visible from here today.
Lake water level appears to be increasing again. Still several meters below the fullest we'd seen it over 2-1/2 years ago. The rate of increase seemed to level off for a week or so when the weather dried out for several days. But 5" in the rain gauge at our friend's house was collected in 1 day. Yesterday. I'm thinking that the water level will continue increasing for the time being.
Hope this information was helpful in some way. Looking like time to load up the boats. Come back here for a report on today's outing!
